Court of Appeal upholds fine imposed on Mikhailovsk resident for discrediting Russian Army

The Stavropol Territorial Court has considered the appeal complaint lodged by Vitaly Fedorenko, a resident of the town of Mikhailovsk, against a fine imposed on him within the case of discrediting the Russian Army and upheld the punishment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this March the court imposed fines totalling 180,000 roubles on Vitaly Fedorenko under six administrative cases on discrediting the Russian Army. Fedorenko has treated the court's position as biased and decided to appeal against the rulings.

On May 15, the Stavropol Territorial Court approved the decision of the Shpakovsky District Court to impose a fine of 30,000 roubles on Vitaly Fedorenko for discrediting the Russian Army.

Vitaly has noted that before the trial he was not informed which his specific placed post had figured in the case; therefore, he could not prepare for his defence. "This is a clear violation of my rights!" Fedorenko has stated, but the court of appeal has disregarded this argument.

According to Fedorenko, the first-instance judge did not even consider the post for which he eventually imposed a fine, but at the same time reprimanded him for another post placed in social networks.
