North-Ossetian Ombudsperson calls for investigation into torture of Batraz Gogaev

North-Ossetian Human Rights Commissioner Tamerlan Tsgoev has called for a review of the refusal to institute a criminal case against law enforcers accused of torturing Batraz Gogaev.

In November 2024, it became known that law enforcers tortured Batraz Gogaev with electric current in Vladikavkaz. Soslan Didarov, a member of the North-Ossetian parliament, demanded to launch an investigation into a case on torture.

North-Ossetian Human Rights Commissioner Tamerlan Tsgoev has requested Valeria Ustova, the chief of the Investigating Department for North Ossetia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), to reconsider the decision to refuse to institute a criminal case against the police inspectors accused of using torture and psychological pressure on Batraz Gogaev. The latter, in turn, is accused of extortion to obtain property on an especially large scale, the “Sapa 15” Telegram channel reports.

Batraz Gogaev complained that the law enforcers threatened him and tortured him with electric current, but an investigator refused to institute a criminal case on torture.
