Shootout with law enforcers was first in Ingushetia in six months

The shootout, in which law enforcers killed a suspected militant, was preceded by a special operation conducted in Karabulak in March, in which six members of the Islamic State (IS)* were killed.

Today, law enforcers have conducted an operation to detain residents of Ingushetia who, according to the Russian FSB (Federal Security Service), had been preparing sabotage acts at energy facilities and attacks on law enforcers. Seven suspects were detained, while the eighth one offered armed resistance and was shot dead.

According to the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from open sources, the shootout was the first such incident in Ingushetia in six months, since March 2, 2024. On that day, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) was conducted in Karabulak. The Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) has reported that at an attempt to detain the militants, the latter opened fire. Six IS* militants were killed, three of whom had been on the wanted list.

In turn, the CTO in Karabulak, conducted this March, was the second in Ingushetia in 11 months. Before that, the CTO regime was introduced in Ingushetia in April 2023. Then, at a farm in Malgobek, law enforcers found the alleged participants in the attack on a traffic police (DPS) post. The suspects opened fire on law enforcers, wounded one of them, and managed to escape.

*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the organization "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
