Eleven victims of armed clash in Ingushetia become largest law enforcers’ loss within a day since August 2012

The law enforcers’ losses during an armed clash in the village of Zyazikov-Yurt, including three killed and eight wounded persons, became the largest number of casualties within a day among the law enforcers in Ingushetia after August 2012, the “Caucasian Knot” calculated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 5, law enforcers discovered a group of alleged militants during a counterterrorist operation (CTO) carried out in the village of Zyazikov-Yurt. When the law enforcers tried to detain the suspects, the latter opened fire. As a result, three policemen were killed, and eight others were injured.

On April 3, at a farm in Malgobek, law enforcers discovered a group of alleged participants of an attack on a road-and-patrol police service (known as DPS) checkpoint. However, the suspects opened fire on the law enforcers, wounded one of them, and fled. On April 3, a counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was announced in the Malgobek District of Ingushetia. During the attack on the DPS checkpoint on the night of April 28, two law enforcers were also wounded. The law enforcers reported that six residents of Ingushetia, including Mikail Moshkhoev, Ramazan Eldiev, Amir Bokov, Amirkhan Gurazhev, Adam Ozdoev, and Movsar Kottoev, were wanted on suspicion of plotting terror acts. Ramazan Eldiev was found dead on March 29, and the body presumably belonging to Movsar Kottoev was also found.

On April 5, the armed clash in the village of Zyazikov-Yurt became the second incident after August 2012, when during one day, the losses among law enforcers amounted to 11 people, follows from the chronicle of armed incidents in Ingushetia, which has been run by the “Caucasian Knot” since 2006 based on the official information and the data from open sources.

On August 19, 2012, a powerful explosion occurred in the village of Sagopshi in the Malgobek District, where the funeral of policeman Ilez Korigov, killed in a shelling attack, took place. According to the police, the explosion was committed by resident of Chechnya Khusein Idilov. The number of victims included 11 policemen.

It should be noted that during the whole of 2022, there were no armed incidents between law enforcers and members of the armed underground in Ingushetia. In 2021, four persons fell victim to the armed conflict in the region.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that when commenting on the shootout in Malgobek, veterans of the law enforcement bodies pointed to the unpreparedness and miscalculations of the Ingush law enforcers, who by that time had twice failed to detain the alleged militants.
