Relatives of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev report preparing for consideration of appeal complaint

Law enforcers did not interfere with the picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev; they only copied the picketers' personal data, Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" outlet, has informed. Gadjiev and Kemal Tambiev, another convict, continue preparing for the consideration of the appeal complaint and are studying the case materials, their relatives and advocate have added.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gadjiev's colleagues treat his criminal case as political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support. On April 1, such an action was held by the above Magomed Magomedov.

Pickets in Gadjiev's defence have been held regularly since June 2019, when Gadjiev was detained. They were disrupted only because of provocations and picketers' detentions.

Dana Sakieva, Gadjiev's wife, has informed that he is getting acquainted with the case materials.

According to Arsen Shabanov, an advocate, there is still no progress on the appeal process.

Let us remind you that in June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, one of the editors of the "Chernovik", Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" Charitable Fund, and Kemal Tambiev, an entrepreneur, were arrested on charges of financing terrorism. On September 12, 2023, the court sentenced Gadjiev to 17 years, Rizvanov to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev to 17.5 years of freedom deprivation.

Gadjiev is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Novocherkassk. An appeal complaint against his verdict was filed back in September 2023, but the hearing thereof has not yet been scheduled, although the law prescribes two months for this, Gadjiev's advocate reported on March 5.
