Colleagues of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev continue campaign in his defence

Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), held a solo picket in Makhachkala. For more than four years, Dagestani journalists have been picketing to support Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the newspaper “Chernovik”, who was accused of financing terrorists and sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment*.

Today, Magomed Magomedov has come out on a solo picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the newspaper “Chernovik” reports in its Telegram channel.

It should be noted that pickets in defence of Abdulmumin Gadjiev have been held regularly since June 2019, when the journalist was detained. The pickets were disrupted only because of provocations and detentions of picketers. The picketers were taken to police stations, but still continued their campaign in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev is being kept in a SIZO (pre-trial prison). An appeal against the verdict was filed back in September 2023, but no court hearing has been scheduled yet, although the law allows two months for scheduling a hearing, an advocate of Abdulmumin Gadjiev reports.

Let us remind you that on January 29, Idris Yusupov**, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause) publication, came out on a picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, but law enforcers interfered with the action three times until the journalist had to stop his action due to the fact that another man unfolded a similar poster next to him.

*On November 24, 2023, the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) included Idris Yusupov into the register of foreign agents. The journalist filed an appeal against the MoJ’s decision.
