Forcing state servants to attend rally held at body of young man killed in Achkhoi-Martan outrages them

Authorities have demanded that teachers and high school pupils attend the rally held near the body of the teenager killed in Achkhoi-Martan during an attack on law enforcers. Law enforcers and administration officials did not allow them to leave the square, although several women lost consciousness, the participants in the rally have stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 7, it became known about a knife attack on the road-and-patrol (DPS) police post located in Achkhoi-Martan. One of the wounded law enforcers later died. The attacker was killed by "return fire." The authorities' attempt to identify a "Ukrainian trace" in the attack raises doubts; and the incident gave Kadyrov a pretext for intensifying repressions, analysts have noted.

Ramzan Kadyrov has announced that the attacker had come to the republic from Moscow. Although this man lived in another region, it was decided to expel his relatives from Chechnya and confiscate their property. A Chechen oppositional Telegram channel has reported that law enforcers had detained all of the attacker's relatives, including his underage cousins.

On April 9, school principals in Achkhoi-Martan received an order: all the teachers and high school pupils must attend the rally where the body of the murdered attacker lay in front of them. Several women fainted; others tried to leave, but were stopped by their bosses.

"I don't know what aim the organizers were pursuing, but judging by how children reacted … I didn’t see any hatred towards the murdered attacker or condemnation of his actions. Many girls were crying,” said Tamara, a teacher.

When commenting on a document banning namaz (prayer) in the Andropovsky District of the Stavropol Territory that had already been cancelled by the district’s authorities, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has called the ban an “open discrimination and legal lawlessness.” The leader of Chechnya has suggested that the authorities of other regions should build more mosques if they do not want namaz in the street.
