Court refuses to commute sentence of journalist Alexander Nozdrinov in fake case
The Krasnodar Territorial Court has upheld the sentence of Alexander Nozdrinov, a journalist and blogger, sentenced to 8.5 years in jail for spreading fake news about the Russian Army, the human rights project "OVD Info"* has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nozdrinov was convicted within the above criminal case; besides, the court banned him from working in media for four years. His relatives linked his prosecution with his civic position and blamed the court of being biased, since his defence had presented proofs of Alexander's innocence.
Now, the Krasnodar Territorial Court has upheld the sentence passed to Alexander Nozdrinov for spreading fakes about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces.
On March 14, 2023, Alexander Isavnin, an expert, spoke at trial. In his opinion, there is reason to believe that the proofs presented by the prosecution "have falsification signs." The expert found these signs of editing screenshots of those Alexander's posts that formed the basis for charging him. The project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" has declared Nozdrinov to be a political prisoner.
The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on February 14, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, signed a law on confiscation of the property used to disseminate deliberately false information about the Russian Army, as well as calls for action against Russia's security. Lawyers have pointed out that the new law is intended to further intimidate dissidents.
