Chechen Ombudsperson demands to punish law enforcers for detaining girl in hijab
Chechen Ombudsperson Mansur Soltaev considered the detention of a 16-year-old girl in a hijab in Amursk a violation and demanded from the authorities to punish those responsible.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in July of 2024, Ramzan Kadyrov called those who “say not to wear hijabs” enemies of Islam.
A father of a 16-year-old native of Chechnya complained to Mansur Soltaev, Ombudsperson in the republic, that his daughter was detained while receiving her passport. According to the man’s story, the girl was detained because of her hijab, and law enforcers claimed that such a form of clothing is “dangerous for society,” the “Chechnya Segodnya” (Chechnya Today) news agency reports.
Mansur Soltaev criticized the law enforcers’ actions. “The detention of the minor girl on such an absurd pretext grossly violates her constitutional rights, which guarantee freedom of religion and the right to self-expression. The girl has been released, but we intend to ensure that those responsible for her unlawful detention are brough to responsibility,” the “Chechnya Segodnya” (Chechnya Today) news agency quotes the Ombudsperson of Chechnya as stating.
Let us remind you that in 2024, the decision of the authorities in the Vladimir Region to ban the wearing of religious clothing in schools caused a wide resonance in the republics of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). Political and religious figures demanded to cancel the ban, and Russian State Duma member Biysultan Khamzaev called the officials of the Vladimir Region “idiots.”
