Authorities of Dagestan promise to accept Palestinian refugees

Dagestan is ready to accept up to 200 Palestinian refugees, and places in a sanatorium have been prepared for their accommodation. That is reported by the administration of the republic’s leader.

Activists from the “Insan” charity foundation have agreed in Egypt with the “Red Crescent” movement, which has access to the Gaza Strip, to transfer food and medicines that were purchased with money raised by residents of Dagestan. Furthermore, part of the humanitarian aid will be sent from Dagestan by plane of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), the “Insan” charity foundation reports. On November 20, the first 30 tons of humanitarian aid, purchased with money raised with the participation of local residents, were sent from Dagestan. According to the leader of Dagestan, it is planned to send a total of 100 tons of humanitarian cargo.

On October 19, the Dagestani “Insan” charitable foundation announced a fundraiser for Palestinians, with the first 7 million roubles raised in five hours. On November 3, Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, reported that residents of the republic had raised more than 90 million roubles for the Palestinians.

In its Telegram channel, the administration of the leader of Dagestan has announced that Dagestan is ready to accept about 200 Palestinian refugees. They will be accommodated in a sanatorium and hotel complex.

Muslims in Northern Caucasus reacted sharply to the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In Dagestan, the majority of residents sympathize with the Palestinians, not only out of religious solidarity, but also for humanistic reasons, note residents of Makhachkala interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot”.

Let us remind you that fundraisers for the Palestinians are also organized in other republics of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). So, on November 15, the authorities of Chechnya reported that more than 68 million roubles were raised during the charity event “Children of Chechnya for Children of Palestine”. The money will be used to purchase humanitarian aid for the Palestinians. According to local public sector employees’ reports, Chechen officials had to spend up to a third of their monthly salaries buying children’s crafts.

Residents of Karachay-Cherkessia requested the authorities to organize a fundraiser for the residents of Palestine and are actively participating in the action. The people explained their participation in the fundraising as their moral choice and desire to support those in need.
