Makhachkala townspeople linked absence of mass pro-Palestinian actions to authorities' position

The solo actions held in support of Palestine help inform residents of Dagestan about the situation in Palestine, but fail to reflect the real scale of support for Palestinians in the republic, residents of Makhachkala believe. Idris Yusupov, a journalist, who has been holding solo pickets since November 6, 2022, has noted that authorities failed to react in any way to his call to hold organized actions on this issue.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Idris Yusupov had noted that the actions related to the events in the Middle East evoke townspeople's response. The overwhelming majority of the republic's population sympathizes with Palestinians, Makhachkala residents have stated.

Mr Yusupov has recalled that through his actions he seeks the attention of republic's public and state institutions to the situation in Palestine.

Solo pickets inform republic's residents about the situation in Palestine; therefore, such actions should be held more often, Khalid, a Makhachkala resident, is sure. At the same time, nobody should violate the current Russian legislation, he has clarified.

The support of Palestinians is welcomed by republic's residents, says Nazim, another Makhachkala resident. Although townspeople do not go out to solo pickets, they show support for the residents of Palestine in other ways – for example, by hanging "Palestine, we are with you" flags on their cars, he has noted.

Solo actions in support of Palestine are, first of all, a manifestation of humanity, a resident of Makhachkala believes. "No one can calmly watch how innocent people are brutally killed every day," he has explained.

Such actions cultivate in the residents of the republic the ability to respond to problems and defend their viewpoints, relying on legal methods, Ali, a Makhachkala resident, is sure.
