Makhachkala residents voice their reasons for supporting Palestine

Residents of Dagestan actively support solo pickets in support of Palestine, although they do not believe in the effectiveness of such format of actions. The overwhelming majority of the population in the republic sympathizes with the Palestinians, not only out of religious solidarity, but also for humanistic reasons, residents of Makhachkala say.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that starting from November 6, Dagestani journalist Idris Yusupov holds solo pickets in Makhachkala in support of residents of Palestine. According to the journalist’s story, his pickets evoke an active response from city residents, and organized actions held in connection with events in the Middle East will be able to reduce tension in the republic.

On October 30, the police came to search a house of Idris Yusupov. Law enforcers confiscated computer and other equipment and obliged the journalist to come to a police station for questioning as a witness in the case on the riots at an airport in Makhachkala.

In Dagestan, there is massive support for the residents of Palestine, but the people are afraid to go out into the streets with pickets, says Aminat, a resident of Makhachkala. At the same time, the woman believes that solo actions cannot affect the situation.

Rashid, a resident of Makhachkala, also believes that solo actions do not affect anything. However, at the same time, the man suggests that with his picket, Idris Yusupov expressed the position of the overwhelming majority of Dagestani residents.

Angela, a resident of Makhachkala, admits that she is not a religious person, but she empathizes with the residents of Palestine from the point of view of “ordinary humanity.”

The population of Dagestan supports any protests, especially if their participation is not required, notes Murad, a resident of Makhachkala. He admits that although individual solo actions will not have any effect, but a “systematic approach” may bring the result.
