Sister of convicted Rizvanov demands answer about legality of law enforcers’ visits
Two men came to the house of the parents of Abubakar Rizvanov, who was sentenced to imprisonment in a case on terrorism financing, and demanded the information about the place of residence of his children. A sister of Abubakar Rizvanov regarded the constant visits by law enforcers as pressure and demanded an answer about the legality of their actions.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charity foundation, and entrepreneur Kemal Tambiev were arrested on the charge of financing terrorism. On September 12, 2023, the court sentenced Abdulmumin Gadjiev to 17 years, Abubakar Rizvanov – to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev – to 17.5 years of imprisonment.
Zumrud Rizvanova reported on her Telegram channel that two men in civilian clothes came to her parents’ house in the village of Verkhneye Inkhelo in the Akhvakh District. One of the men identified himself as a criminal investigation officer.
“First, he questioned Abubakar’s wife, allegedly to find out the information about my brother and where his family members lived. When I asked the men for what purpose they came and on what grounds, he replied that they came to our place to collect the information concerning the Abubakar’s case, to collect our data and the composition of the family,” Zumrud Rizvanova reported. She added that the law enforcers said that they allegedly needed the data on the Abubakar’s children for a “preventive conversation.”
A mother of Abubakar Rizvanov asked the law enforcers to leave and come with an official document. “When my mother insisted that he leave, he began to threaten that he would officially summon her for questioning,” Zumrud Rizvanova wrote. The Abubakar Rizvanov’s sister noted that the visitors did not present any identification documents.
Zumrud Rizvanova noted that the family “did not receive a clear answer as to why the law enforcers came and what they wanted.” “My brother has seven minor children who are not connected to the sentence. My mother is 69 years old, and she is neither a suspect nor a convict, the trial is over, and the sentence has been pronounced,” Zumrud Rizvanova emphasized.
