Solo pickets in support of Palestinians and journalist Gadjiev held in Makhachkala

Salim Khalitov, an activist, has held a solo picket in Makhachkala in support of Palestine, while a journalist has demanded to release the convicted Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict evoked a response among North-Caucasian Muslims. Thus, in Chechnya, the official clergy is organizing daily mass prayers in support of Palestine, and residents of Makhachkala tried to hold a rally on October 17, which was dispersed by law enforcers. On October 19, the Dagestani Muftiate called on the Imams of mosques to pray for an end to the war.

Salim Khalitov, an activist, has held a picket in central Makhachkala. Then, Idris Yusupov, a journalist from the "Novoye Delo" (New Cause) outlet, held a picket demanding the release of the convicted Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the "Chernovik" (Draft) outlet.

Law enforcers made no attempts to interrupt the above solo pickets.

Let us remind you that Gadjiev's colleagues treat his criminal case as political persecution and hold weekly pickets in his support. In particular, on October 9 and October 16, such pickets were held by Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik".

Salim Khalitov had also earlier held pickets in support of Gadjiev. On February 6, 2023, he said that he had known Gadjiev since school and many of his acquaintances were sure that he was innocent.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the "Chernovik" outlet; Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" Charity Fund; and Kemal Tambiev, an activist, were under arrest since June 2019 on charges of financing terrorism. On September 12, the court sentenced Gadjiev to 17 years, Rizvanov to 18 years, and Tambiev to 17.5 years of freedom deprivation.
