Journalists hold pickets in support of Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev

Solo pickets in support of the tried Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the "Chernovik" (Draft) outlet, were held in Makhachkala by Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gadjiev's colleagues treat the criminal case initiated against him as political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support in Makhachkala. In particular, on July 17, such pickets were held by Idris Yusupov, a journalist with the "Novoye Delo" (New Cause) outlet, and Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik".

At his solo picket, Magomed Magomedov demanded to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev and stop his criminal prosecution. According to Mr Yusupov, numerous passers-by actively reacted to Magomedov's picket; three of them entered into a dialogue with him and asked questions. Car drivers passing by also reacted with gestures of support and car signals.

The second solo picket with a poster: "Freedom to journalism!" was held by Idris Yusupov. According to his story, law enforcers did not try to interrupt the solo actions.

Let us remind you that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" Charitable Fund, and Kemal Tambiev, an activist, have been kept in custody since June 2019 on charges of financing terrorism.

On June 22, 2023, the state prosecutor demanded that each of the defendants be sentenced to 19 years in colony. The prosecutor has ignored the experts' arguments and witnesses' testimonies, Abdulmumin Gadjiev has stated.
