After picket disruption, Dagestani journalist Magomedov demands to admit investigators' inaction

Investigators have groundlessly ignored the application lodged by Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" outlet, who demanded to bring to justice the policemen, who disrupted his solo picket, held in June 2022. His defence has pointed in the appeal that the court in Makhachkala, which refused to acknowledge investigators' inaction, violated the legislation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2022, Magomed Magomedov made an application, in which he demanded to prosecute the policemen, who, in his opinion, illegally interfered with his solo picket and exceeded their official powers. Then, a court in Makhachkala refused to satisfy his claims.

On July 11, 2022, the police detained Magomedov, who went out to a solo picket in support of the journalist, Abdulmumin Gadjiev. Murad Muradov, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who was filming the picket, was also detained (he is included into the register of foreign agents).

Shamil Isaev, an advocate, believes that Magomedov's application about the policemen's offence complies with the requirements the law and should have been duly considered. In Isaev's opinion, the court has demonstrated that power servants are allowed to break the law. This grossly contradicts the Russian Constitution, according to which everyone is equal before the law.

On January 16, 2023, law enforcers detained Magomedov and Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the "Novoye Delo" outlet, who intended to hold solo pickets in Gadjiev's defence. The journalists were taken to the police station under the pretext that they had received some message about the prepared mass riots. A few hours later, the journalists were released.

Idris Yusupov is also seeking to verify the policemen's actions.
