Reaction to pickets in support of Gadjiev show increased interest in his case

The speeches during debates at the trial have sparked an increased interest in the case of the Dagestan journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev, which was confirmed by the reaction to pickets held in Makhachkala. The court's verdict in Gadjiev's case will demonstrate whether justice is possible in such cases, or it will untie the hands of those who falsify cases, his colleagues have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested editor of the "Chernovik" outlet, treat the case against him as political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support in Makhachkala.

Approximately the same number of people has drawn attention to the picket demanding the release of political prisoners as a week earlier. However, those who have this time supported the solo pickets with words or gestures were much more numerous, Idris Yusupov, a journalist from the "Novoye Delo" outlet, has noted, adding that the very fact that a picket is being held in Makhachkala with a "universal demand for 'Freedom for political prisoners!'" is surprising for visitors.

Another Gadjiev's colleague said that regular picketing in support of the journalist held for more than four years is an unprecedented event for Russia.

The interest in the outcome of Gadjiev's case is unprecedentedly high and increases as we approach the denouement, Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik", believes. In his opinion, the speeches of Tambiev and Gadjiev have shown the inconsistency of prosecution's arguments.

The bright speeches pronounced by Gadjiev and Tambiev at the debates have provoked additional interest in his case, Mr Yusupov believes. "We see a lot of reposts of this information. People are waiting, reading, and sharing their opinions on the case," the journalist has added, noting that he and Gadjiev's other colleagues hope for Gadjiev's acquittal, but extrajudicial factors that could affect the verdict should not be ruled out.
