Nine activists arrested in Krasnodar after action for Navalny

The Leninsky District Court of Krasnodar has considered the cases of 14 activists detained in connection with the action in support of Alexei Navalny held on January 31.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the January 31 march organized by Navalny's Krasnodar office, activists demanded a change of power and release of political prisoners. According to the office, in the evening on January 31, 43 people were detained in Krasnodar.

On January 31, actions of Navalny's supporters were held in many regions of Russia, including cities of the country's south: Astrakhan, Volgograd, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and Stavropol. According to eyewitnesses, at the venues of unsanctioned actions, not only activists were detained, but also journalists and passers-by.

According to the updated information of the Navalny's regional branch, on January 31, a total of 54 people were detained in Krasnodar, but most of the detainees were released without drawing up administrative protocols, Anastasia Panchenko, the office coordinator, told the "Caucasian Knot".

However, administrative cases under articles on organizing a rally and disobeying the police were initiated against 14 people. Nine of them received administrative arrests, others were fined.

According to Timur Filippov, an advocate, all the judgements will be appealed against. In the cases of the two activists arrested last week, appeal complaints have already been submitted to the Krasnodar Territorial Court.
