Rights defenders doubt of any fruit from prisoners' complaint to Kadyrov

There have been no mass complaints to human rights defenders from the colony in Chechnya, whose prisoners complained about the staff’s actions, and their appeal to Ramzan Kadyrov may result in additional punishments.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the inmates of the cove colony had complained that the colony staff used to extort bribes from them and confiscate their personal belongings. After that, the authors of the appeal were subjected to repression and were deprived of foodstuffs.

The colony in Chechnya, whose inmates had complained about the administration, was mentioned in the media more than once in connection with the violation of inmates’ rights, Valentin Bogdan, a human rights defender, has noted. He assessed the conditions in this colony as quite harsh.

Ruslan Kutaev, his colleague, who spent three years in this colony (in 2014-2017, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), didn’t face abuses.

According to Mr Kutaev, during the month of Ramadan, all the prisoners received packages from Chechen philanthropists. "You say that they were deprived of food during the month of Ramadan, but I recollect that, on the contrary, we received food packages from local philanthropists and sponsors. It’s my great pity that this is not there now," he has added.
