Kuban authorities extended state of emergency on Apsheron District and Sochi

The state of emergency regime, in force in the Tuapse District of the Krasnodar Territory (also known as Kuban by the name of the main river) after heavy rains, was also introduced in the Apsheron District and in the city of Sochi. Thousands of people living in the dwelling settlements in the north of the Tuapse District have lost their transport communication, electricity and gas supplies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, in the Tuapse District of Kuban, an emergency situation regime was introduced because of heavy rains. More than 140 people in eight settlements of the Krasnodar Territory were evacuated. In Tuapse, as a result of the bad weather, the bridge over the Tsypka River was destroyed. Residents of the city were left without gas and water supply. Two people were killed and other three were injured.

The settlement of Tsypka has both motor and railway bridges damaged, which resulted in loss of communication with more than ten nearby settlements and blockage of the only direct road that connects the city of Maikop with the Black Sea coast, the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory have reported.

In Tuapse, the supplies of gas and electricity are completely restored, but the settlements in the northern part of the district, access to which was stopped because of the collapsed bridge, are still without both supplies, the Tuapse district administration told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The bridge on the Tsypka River has collapsed; the Shaumyan Pass that is on the other bank is also closed. We are in blockade here," Maxim Reshetnikov, the head of the self-government of the Krivenkovskaya village, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has added that it is still raining heavily, and people cannot start liquidating the consequences of the calamity. The ground floors of 80% of houses are flooded – only the households located on the hill were not affected.

The settlement of Shaumyan is also cut off from the outside world, Karen Bagaryan, a local resident, has reported. According to his story, the whole rural municipality, which includes several dwelling settlements, has no water and electricity supplies; and Shaumyan itself has no natural gas supply.
