PFPA claims falsification of case against Fuad Akhmedli

Fuad Akhmedli, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), is charged with disseminating personal information of mobile communication users. According to PFPA members, the law enforcement authorities are trying to discredit the Party by presenting Fuad Akhmedli as a supporter of Turkish Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Fuad Akhmedli, the leader of the Khatai Office of the Youth Committee of the PPFA was arrested on August 18.

In the evening of August 19, the State Security Service and the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan issued a joint statement concerning the case against Fuad Akhmedli. It has been reported that four persons were detained in the case, and three of them held positions at the mobile communication companies.

According to the State Security Service and the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, during a search, law enforcers found at the place of Fuad Akhmedli the religious books prohibited by the laws, CDs, leaflets with speeches of Fethullah Gülen, as well as the documents relating to members of the groups of supporters of the Turkish preacher, including "Gülən camaatı" and "Hizmət imamları" ("Gülen Community" and "Imams of Khizmat"; the organization "Khizmat" includes Fethullah Gülen's supporters from all around the world, note of the "Caucasian Knot").

All four detainees are taken into custody, the press release reports.

The criminal proceedings against Fuad Akhmedli are a provocation against the PFPA, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the PFPA.

The PFPA has also disseminated a public statement, which refers to the institution of a case against Fuad Akhmedli as the beginning of "a new repressive war."

"The charges filed against Fuad Akhmedli are definitely fabricated and false. Fuad Akhmedli has no connection with supporters of Fethullah Gülen. The young man graduated from the University of Economics. He is a political activist with modern liberal mentality," emphasizes the PFPA in its public statement.
