Complaint in case of disappeared Grozny resident filed to ECtHR

Members of the "Committee for the Prevention of Torture" believe that the Russian Federation has violated the right to life of Hussein Badurgov, who disappeared in 2012, and the right of his mother to effective investigation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 10, 2012, Hussein Badurgov, a 25-year-old resident of Chechnya, disappeared in Grozny under unclear circumstances.

According to the "Committee for the Prevention of Torture", on July 30, 2012, relatives of the disappeared man appealed for legal assistance to the Joint Mobile Group (JMG) of Russian human rights organizations working in Chechnya.

The criminal investigation continues for the fourth year. According to the members of the "Committee for the Prevention of Torture", they failed to urge the investigating authorities to carry out an effective investigation, and the investigation was suspended seven times.

Ekaterina Vanslova, an international law lawyer of the interregional public organization "Committee for the Prevention of Torture", notes that according to the Committee, the investigators have failed to question all possible witnesses in the case, to identify and to question as witnesses the persons, involved in telephone talks with Hussein Badurgov.

Lawyers of the "Committee for the Prevention of Torture" have sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
