More than 500 Kizlyar residents attend rally on anniversary of Raduev's armed attack on Kizlyar

On January 9, on the 20th anniversary of the armed attack on Kizlyar committed on January 9, 1996, which killed more than 70 people, the city held memorial events. The regional museum has opened an exhibition presenting the personal belongings of the casualties.

On January 9, 1996, militants led by Chechen field commanders Salman Raduev and Khunkar-Pashi Israpilov attacked the city of Kizlyar in Dagestan. They took hostages, and on January 18, they returned to the territory of Chechnya. As a result of the attack on Kizlyar and the battle near the village of Pervomaiskoe, about 70 people were killed, and more than 100 others were injured.

The regional museum named after Pyotr Bagration has opened an exhibition, presenting photos and personal belongings of the deceased policemen, locks and door handles of the apartments of residents, whom the attackers were trying to assault. This is reported by the press service of the Kizlyar administration with reference to Lev Serebryakov, a museum researcher.

Alexander Shuvalov, Mayor of Kizlyar, has noted that the commemorative events are to attract more young people, who are most vulnerable to propaganda disseminated by supporters of radical religious movements, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.
