Sappers of Russia's MfE finish their work in Chechnya

Sappers of the "Leader" Special-Purpose Centre (SPC) of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of Russia, who arrived to Chechnya in mid-April to clear the territory of one of state farms from mines, shells and other explosive matter, have finished their work in Chechnya and take a break till autumn.

"A group from the 'Leader' SPC of the MfE, which was engaged for six weeks in demining the lands of 'Zarya' State Farm in Grozny District, has completely fulfilled its mission," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the MfE of Chechnya.

According to the source, a total area of more than 50 hectares was completely cleared of mines, various ammunition and other explosive subjects; over 170 various ordnances were found and neutralized. "The difficulty was in the need for the sappers to perform the so-called 'absolute demining', to examine literally every centimetre of land; and it took pretty plenty of time," said the source.

In autumn, experts of the "Leader" will arrive to Chechnya again to continue their work on the lands of "Zarya' State Farm; they plan to demine some 70 hectares more.
