In Chechnya, a soldier injured by fougasse explosion

In the Shali District of the Chechen Republic, when two ATCs (armoured troop-carriers) of the Internal Troops of Russia's MIA were moving along the bridge, a powerful self-made land mine (fougasse) was blown up. As a result of the explosion, one of the soldiers was wounded and hospitalized.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Military Commandant's Office of the Republic, the incident took place in the vicinity of Belgatoy village, Shali District. A criminal case was opened on the fact.

"Some two kilometres off Belgatoy village, Shali District, when two ATCs with Internal Troops' soldiers inside were crossing a bridge across an irrigation canal, an unidentified self-made mine blew up. One of the soldiers received heavy fragmental wounds and was hospitalized. There were no other victims," said an officer of the Military Commandant's Office and added that a 122-mm artillery shell was probably used as a fougasse.
