Krasnodar: doctors who have mutilated Sonya Kulivets convicted to a year in colony

In Krasnodar both defendants in the case of newborn Sonya Kulivets - doctor Vladimir Pelipenko and nurse Elena Senicheva - have been sentenced to one year of imprisonment in a colony-settlement.

The RIA "Novosti" reports that the court has found proven that Pelipenko and Senicheva inflicted to the girl "grave health damage as a result of poor execution of their duties, accompanied by negligence." The court has also deprived the defendants of the right to be engaged in doctor's profession for the term of two years.

We remind you that doctor Vladimir Pelipenko, who has addressed his last plea to the court today, has refused to plead guilty.

On December 30, 2006, Sonya Kulivets was diagnosed "whooping cough" and brought from the Abinskaya District Hospital to Krasnodar, to the Regional Children's Infectious Hospital. A catheter was attached to the girl for injecting the drug. As a result of the catheterization, a blood clot formed in the brachial artery. The doctors unsuccessfully tried to save the damaged arm, and in the beginning of January 2007, they had to amputate it.

After the amputation, Sonya was sent to Moscow for further treatment and examination. When the Moscow experts have established that the catheter was installed incorrectly and caused thrombosis, the medical workers who had treated Sonya were brought to justice.
