Social workers of Dagestan breached the rights of Chernobyl liquidators

The Dagestan residents of the city of Kizilyurt, who suffered from radiation when liquidating the implications of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident, failed to receive their due allowances.

From the beginning of 2006 and till this September, a total of 45 citizens filed their claims at the Kizilyurt City Court against the Department of Social Protection of the Population.

The claims demanded to collect from the Kizilyurt Department the indebtedness on monthly donations for buying foodstuffs and annual compensations of health damage.

The Court has satisfied the claims and ruled to pay the due compensations in the total sum of 3,153,222 roubles.

Since the actions of the officials at the Department of Social Protection of the Population of the Municipal Formation "City of Kizilyurt" possess elements of the crime, envisaged by Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan has sent the materials of the examination to the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee under the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for Dagestan for starting the criminal prosecution.
