Meeting of MFA heads of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdniestria: the outcomes

In the course of the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, Transdniestria and South Ossetia, held today in Sukhumi, no documents have been signed.

According to S. Shamba, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Abkhazia, the meeting has considered "a broad scope of issues, and in most details - the one related to consultations on Georgian-Abkhazian settlement, which are held these days by the UN Security Council."

In this connection, the basic attention at the meeting of MFA heads of the unrecognized Republics was given to the role of the United Nations in peace-making process. "The Abkhazian party has essential doubts as to the objectivity of the United Nations under whose aegis the Georgian-Abkhazian negotiation process unfolds," Mr. Shamba has noted. He has also reminded that "initially, two parties in negotiations have been defined - the Abkhazian and the Georgian ones, therefore, Abkhazia has all the grounds to directly deliver its viewpoint on the conflict and its settlement to the international community."

Minister Shamba also reported that today's meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdniestria has also considered certain organizational matters, in particular - the optimum structure of the Community "For Democracy and Peoples' Rights."

We note here that today the UN Security Council is discussing the situation in the Abkhazian-Georgian conflict zone at its closed session.
