Kabardino-Balkaria starts the fourth round of choosing jurymen for Nalchik attack case
On December 23, the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria continued selecting jurymen for the trial of the criminal case on the events of October 13, 2005. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by advocate Magomed Abubakarov.
According to his story, this time the candidates were invited, who were on the list but failed to appear earlier. In total, 64 new candidates came; 25 remained after declared self-disqualifications.
Mr Abubakarov said that 14 jurymen had already been chosen. "The court asserts that in view of complexity and duration of the process they need at least 25 reserve jurymen, but if we manage to choose two persons more, there will be no formal grounds to delay the start of the trial," he added.
Meanwhile, it has become known to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the defendants' relatives are signing-in the petition of Russian human rights defenders to President Medvedev urging him not to sign the law on restriction of the trial by jury.
The lawyers participating in the case on the attack on Nalchik hope that the law will not cover this criminal case if a special reservation is made therein.
