PACE demands releasing journalists arrested in Azerbaijan

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has expressed a "serious concern" with deterioration of the situation with human rights in Azerbaijan and demanded immediate release of the arrested journalists.

This is the topic of the statement of the press service of the Council of Europe that has arrived to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The Assembly has stated that any restrictions of the freedom of speech - in particular, any prosecutions and intimidations of oppositional journalists - same as any restrictions of the freedom of assemblies and associations, "are inadmissible in the member-state of the Council of Europe", and has declared that the problem of political prisoners has remained unresolved. The PACE has urgently demanded from the authorities of Azerbaijan to release the arrested journalists Ganimat Zakhidov, Sakit Zakhidov and Einullah Fatullaev.
