Supreme Court of Azerbaijan upholds verdict to Fatullaev

Today, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan presided by Judge Muzaffar Agazade has considered a cassation complaint lodged by Einullah Fatullaev, editor-in-chief and founder of newspapers "Real Azerbaijan" and "Gyundelik Azerbaijan" (Daily Azerbaijan).

Isakhan Ashurov, journalist's advocate, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the Supreme Court denied Fatullaev's complaint and upheld the decision of the Baku Appeal Court of January 16, 2008, which in its turn had upheld the verdict of the Court for Grave Crimes of October 30, 2007.

According to the verdict, Fatullaev will spend 8.5 years behind bars. He was found guilty under three Article of the Criminal Code: 214.1 ("Threat of terrorism"), 283.2.2 ("Kindling of national, racial and religious enmity through use of one's service position") and 213.2.2 ("Tax evasion").
