Court repeatedly acquits Krasnodar law enforcers in case on beating a disabled person

The text of the second acquittal of law enforcers in the case on beating a disabled person Yevgeny Manchenko is almost identical to the first court’s verdict, human rights defenders note.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 21, 2023, the Krasnodar Territorial Court acquitted former policemen Vladimir Tatarkov and Vyacheslav Zyabkin in the case on beating Yevgeny Manchenko. Both former policemen received the right to rehabilitation for “unlawful criminal prosecution.”

The guilty verdict was four times cancelled by the Krasnodar Territorial Court. Twice the court returned the case to public prosecutor and twice acquitted the former policemen. The recent acquittal was pronounced in September of this year. Its text is almost identical to the first acquittal, with the paragraphs being just rearranged, the “Team Against Torture”* reports on its Telegram channel.

Let us remind you that in March 2019, Yevgeny Manchenko tried to climb over the fence into the yard of his house because he had lost his keys. The policemen ran up to him, started to pull him off the fence, and hit him in the leg with a baton. When Yevgeny Manchenko fell, they continued to beat him, the victim’s mother said. The woman noted that her 23-year-old son is disabled with special needs.

*The “Team against Torture” (TaT, formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
