Verdict to Volgograd woman for attempted arson of military commissariat mitigated

The appellate court has reduced the suspended sentence imposed on Tatiana Lebedeva, a Volgograd resident, within the case of attempted arson of the military commissariat (registration and enlistment office).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in September, the court sentenced Yulia Yaschenko, a former employee of the Volgograd Regional Justice Committee, to two years in penal colony, finding her guilty of attempting to set fire to the military commissariat. However, Yaschenko was released from custody, since the court counted the time she spent at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) as part of her sentence.

Tatiana Lebedeva was sentenced to three years of conditional imprisonment on July 9, 2024, since the court found her guilty of attempted intentional arson of someone else's property causing significant damage for hooligan motives. The Prosecutor's Office (PO) appealed against the sentence, as stated on the website of the Volgograd Regional Court. According to PO's version, the court did not take into account that Lebedeva's actions "were aimed at setting fire to the military commissariat building, and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) "could have suffered significant material damage because of that."

The appellate court has disagreed with the PO's arguments and indicated that the court had found no aggravating circumstances, but found mitigating ones, namely, "active assistance in solving the crime." As a result, the court mitigated the sentence down to two years and 10 months.
