Kadyrov's son threatens pop-MMA fighters

Chechen pop-MMA (mixed martial arts) fighters should refuse to take part in tournaments in this direction, as they disgrace the Chechen nation and faith, Akhmat Kadyrov, the Chechen Minister of Sports, has stated. According to his story, this "final warning" to be followed by specific measures.

The Chechen pop-MMA fighters' behaviour in and outside the ring (an amateur competition with show elements, – note by the "Caucasian Knot") "is discrediting the honour of our people and faith," Akhmat Kadyrov has stated emphasizing that "Chechens have always been famous for their dignified behaviour based on deep-rooted traditions and values."

"Some of you, in your press conferences and public appearances, insult this sacred heritage. Your antics, foul language and indecent behaviour not only humiliate you, but also disgrace the entire Chechen people and the Muslim community as a whole," the Minister wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to his story, despite numerous warnings, pop-MMA fighters continue behaving as if "they don't realize the consequences of their actions." He called on them to "focus on tournaments that are in line with our traditions."

Popular Chechen pop-MMA fighters include the "Chechen Hulk" Askhab Tamaev (who also organizes fights), Arbi (Aggressor) Emiev, and Ilyas (Shalinsky Wolf) Yakubov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that that Askhab Tamaev and Arbi Emiev, who are also bloggers, were reprimanded by the head of the Chechen Ministry of Sports for "the behaviour unworthy of Chechens." Tamaev had earlier been criticized for advertising an online casino. From the viewpoint of Chechen traditions and Islam, taking part in gambling and advertising thereof are prohibited, Ruslan Kutaev, a Caucasus expert, and Rinat Mukhametov, an Islamic expert, have explained.
