Bloggers’ advertising of gambling contradicts Chechen traditions

In their comments on the Internet, social media users have suggested that a preventive conversation held by the Chechen Minister of Sports and bloggers Askhab Tamaev and Arbi Emiev could be provoked by a posted video about a conflict using obscene language or by an advertisement for an online casino. From the point of view of Chechen traditions and Islam, participation in gambling and its advertising are prohibited and condemned, emphasize Caucasian experts.

Earlier, bloggers Askhab Tamaev and Arbi Emiev have been reprimanded by the Chechen Minister of Sports for “behaviour unworthy of Chechens.” Askhab Tamaev was criticized for advertising online casinos.

Traditional Caucasian societies treat gambling in a negative way, notes Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations.

Gambling is prohibited by Islam, emphasizes Islamic expert Rinat Mukhametov, an author of the “Nerussky” (Not Russian) Telegram channel.

“If a casino is prohibited, then its advertising is also prohibited,” explained Rinat Mukhametov.

Bloggers Askhab Tamaev and Arbi Emiev are “from among ‘close associates of the authorities,’ so they got away with just a preventive conversation,” points out a social media user who left his comment on the “Caucasian Knot”. “If an ordinary resident of Chechnya had been in their place, he would have been publicly humiliated, and even his relatives would have been gathered and forced to apologize and stigmatize the member of their family,” suggested the social media user.

Advertising online casinos is prohibited in Russia and may result in administrative liability, notes lawyer Mikki Arapiev.
