In Dagestani village of Tlokha, residents demand to punish law enforcers for use of torture

Law enforcers tortured Magomed Shamsudinov, a resident of the village of Tlokha in the Botlikh District, to obtain a confession from him in a criminal case. Magomed Shamsudinov has been held in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) for four months, his fellow villagers state in their video message to Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan. The villagers asked Sergey Melikov to intervene in the situation and stop the violation of the rights of their fellow villager.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that residents of Dagestan regularly complain about violations of their rights by law enforcers. Earlier, the death of Makhachkala resident Kurban Dalgatov at a Makhachkala police department caused a wide public outcry in the republic.

On August 14, Magomed Magomedov and Amir Makhmudov, residents of the village of Gergebil, lodged complaints to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) about the use of torture by law enforcers.

The video message from residents of the village of Tlokh in the Botlikh District, to Sergei Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, was posted on the Internet by the Instagram* public account golos.dagestan_.

Law enforcers tortured Magomed Shamsudinov, born in 1995, and an investigator falsified his interrogation. The law enforcers tried to get him to confess to a crime. In their appeal, the villagers noted that at the time indicated in the police protocol, Magomed Shamsudinov stayed at a hospital.

The law enforcers indicated in their protocol that there were no injuries on the body of Magomed Shamsudinov. However, the forensic medical examination report of May 8 notes that signs of violence and torture were discovered on the Magomed Shamsudinov’s body. No investigation into the above fact has been carried out yet.
