Picket in Makhachkala attracts attention of passers-by to journalist Gadjiev’s case

After holding a picket in support of his convicted colleague Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), said that in Makhachkala, passers-by expressed their interest in an Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s case and the date of consideration of the appeal. The date for consideration of the appeal against the verdict is still unknown, reports Arsen Shabanov, an advocate of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support in Makhachkala. Today, like on May 6, such solo picket was held by Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Chernovik”.

Pickets in defence of Abdulmumin Gadjiev have been held regularly since June 2019, when the journalist was detained. The pickets were disrupted only because of provocations and arrests of picketers. On May 6, a young man wearing a medical mask tried to join a solo picket held by Magomed Magomedov. The journalist considered the above an attempt to disrupt the protest action.

Today, the picket in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev has been held as an “example,” Magomed Magomedov emphasizes. “The picket passed calmly, without any difficulties or provocations. People came up, expressed their interest, asked about the reason for the picket or about health state of Abdulmumin Gadjiev,” Magomed Magomedov says.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the newspaper “Chernovik”, is being kept in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Novocherkassk. The appeal against the verdict was filed back in September 2023.
