Prison staff would not let advocate visit Albagachiev, native of Ingushetia

Prison staff in Dimitrovgrad did not allow Dmitry Egoshin, an advocate, to visit Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, a native of Ingushetia; a similar refusal from a colony in the Astrakhan Region is being considered in court. According to the advocate, Albagachiev has difficulties receiving parcels from his relatives.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 7, 2023, the Sovietsky District Court of Astrakhan changed Albagachiev's custody regime to the prison one, although experts then noted that his health condition had worsening, since he was not receiving the necessary medical treatment at the colony. In the fall of 2023, Albagachiev was transferred to a colony in the Ulyanovsk Region, after which he suffered four epilepsy attacks.

On July 30, 2023, Albagachiev had an epileptic attack; and the doctor came only two hours later. Relatives then claimed that that his increasingly frequent epilepsy attacks were caused by the consequences of the torture to which he was subjected by law enforcers.

The Voskresensk City Court of the Moscow Region was to hold hearing on the lawsuit lodged by Dmitry Egoshin, who is also an expert of the human rights fund "Public Verdict"*, who is challenging his denial of access in August 2023 to Albagachiev, who is a client of the above fund at the Astrakhan colony. This week, on April 17, Egoshin was again not allowed to visit Albagachiev, who is now being held in the Ulyanovsk Region.

Dmitry Egoshin has no advocate's status, but even a person without a legal education has the right to visit an inmate, he has explained, stressing that a refusal to grant a visit violates the law.

In August 2018, Albagachiev was sentenced to nine years in penal colony. According to investigators, in January-March 2015, he fought in Syria against government troops; and after returning to Russia, he kept a homemade grenade with him.
