Advocate of Ingush prisoner Albagachiev claims obstacles to communicating with him

The administration of the penal colony did not hand over to advocate the letters from Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, a native of Ingushetia, in which he wrote about his state of health and the lack of medical care, advocate Irina Biryukova stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in August 2018, Abdul-Malik Albagachiev was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment. According to the investigators’ version, from January to March 2015, the man fought in Syria against government troops, and after returning to Russia, he stored a homemade grenade at home. Abdul-Malik Albagachiev complained about the torture during the preliminary investigation. On July 30, he suffered an epileptic seizure. During all that time the man was lying on the floor in the cell.

On September 4, Irina Biryukova, an advocate of Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, visited her client in the penal colony IK-10 of the Astrakhan Region. That was her first visit to Abdul-Malik Albagachiev since she received a letter from her client on August 23, in which he wrote that he was not receiving medical assistance and that another prisoner was beaten in front of him.

According to the advocate’s report, her client also wrote letters to her after August 23, in which he described the events in the penal colony, but they were no longer sent. It is unacceptable not to send letters, and correspondence with an advocate is not subject to censorship, Irina Biryukova emphasized.

“On August 28, Abdul-Malik Albagachiev handed over a statement declaring a hunger strike and sewed up his mouth with threads in protest against the fact that warders did not send his letters and did not provide him with medical assistance. My client had his mouth sewn up during two days,” Irina Biryukova stated.
