Contract soldier from Novorossiysk sentenced to five years of imprisonment for failure to appear at his military unit

The Novorossiysk Garrison Military Court sentenced Vladimir Polulyakhov, who had signed a three-month contract, to five years of imprisonment for failing to appear at his military unit after treatment in a hospital.

The court found Vladimir Polulyakhov guilty of failure to appear for military service during the period of mobilization, the “Kommersant” reported. The man was supposed to arrive at his military unit from the hospital on December 30, 2022, but did not show up for duty. Vladimir Polulyakhov lived at home with his parents, where he was detained on June 15, 2023.

The defendant admitted his guilt and explained that he wanted to take a temporary break from the military service, spend time at his own discretion, and return back to the military unit. As stated in the court’s decision, Vladimir Polulyakhov entered into a three-month contract on October 12, 2022.

The court has recognized the mitigating circumstances that the defendant was brought to criminal responsibility for the first time, has a satisfactory record of military service, participated in the special military operation, wants to continue serving and take part in the special military operation (SMO), and takes care of his minor child.
