Chechen SC agrees with Milashina's and Dubrovina's complaints

The Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny unlawfully legalized the suspension of the preliminary investigation into the beatings of Elena Milashina, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper, Marina Dubrovina, an advocate, and denied their access to the case files; this was ruled by the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya that has sent their complaints for a new consideration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 6, 2020, in Grozny, Elena Milashina and Marina Dubrovina were attacked by a group of men and women. Human rights defenders then suggested that the incident had to do with the women's professional work.

The Chechen SC has ordered the Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny to review its ruling according to which the suspension of preliminary inquiry into the attack on Milashina and Dubrovina committed in February 2020, was found as legitimate, and the victims were denied access to the case files.

Then, Elena Milashina and Alexander Nemov, an advocate, were attacked on July 4, 2023 in Chechnya, when they were on their way to the trial of Zarema Musaeva; they were severely beaten up.
