Chechnya: Akhmat Kadyrov appointed Minister of Youth Affairs

The 18-year-old son of the head of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov, has been appointed the republic's Minister of Youth Affairs. He was also awarded Chechnya's highest award, Magomed Daudov, the Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, has announced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November 2023, Akhmat Kadyrov, was appointed deputy minister for physical culture, sports and youth policy of Chechnya. According to the law, a post of this level cannot be occupied by a person without a completed higher education, lawyers then pointed out.

In March 2023, Akhmat Kadyrov, who was 17 years old then, met with Vladimir Putin. Human rights defenders then treated this meeting as a signal that power in Chechnya will continue to be inherited.

The son of the head of Chechnya "makes a significant contribution to improving the work quality of youth organizations; he actively participates in the region's public life," the Speaker Magomed Daudov has written in his Telegram channel.

Earlier, on November 5, 2023, it became known that Adam Kadyrov, another son of the head of Chechnya, shortly before his 16th birthday, was appointed head of the security division of his father, Ramzan Kadyrov. This appointment is against the labour legislation on teenagers and only emphasizes the hereditary principle of building power in the republic, experts have pointed out. For Adam Kadyrov, this is a test of his ability to head Chechnya after his father, they have suggested.
