Dagestan: picket in support of journalist Gadjiev attracts law enforcers' increased attention

The solo picket held by Magomed Magomedov, a journalist, in defence of the convicted Abdulmumin Gadjiev took place under the law enforcers' supervision. The demand to release Gadjiev also interested passers-by, the picketer has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" outlet, held a solo picket in Makhachkala demanding the release of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

Many law enforcers in uniform and in civilian clothes arrived at the venue of his solo picket.

"Today, there was too much attention from law enforcement bodies. It's clear that they are ready to return to their earlier policy of detaining picketers," Mr Magomedov has stated.

On July 11, 2022, police detained Magomed Magomedov at a picket in support of Gadjiev. Murad Muradov, a journalist, who filmed the picket, was also detained (included into the register of foreign agents). On January 16, 2023, law enforcers detained Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov, who intended to hold pickets in Gadjiev's support. The court found the detention of the journalists lawful.

Magomedov has emphasized that the editorial board of the "Chernovik" insist on Gadjiev's innocence and calls for his release. He has treated the criminal prosecution of Gadjiev as one of the ways to put pressure on the outlet.
