Kaspiysk PO refuses to check complaint about registration female students wearing hijabs
The Prosecutor's Office (PO) of the city of Kaspiysk has refused to check the legality of registering female students wearing hijabs at the Kaspiysk Medical College. This decision was appealed against at the Dagestani PO, Arsen Magomedov, a lawyer, has informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October, the girls wearing hijabs (headscarves) were not allowed into schools in several villages of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR). The Muftiate of the KBR announced that it had convinced officials not to interfere with the schoolgirls wearing hijabs; and on October 4, in the village of Zalukokoazhe, schoolgirls were allowed to attend classes. After the intervention of the Mufti, the conflict was resolved, and changes in school charters are being discussed, the administration of the Zolsky District has informed.
The Kaspiysk PO has refused to consider the application on the discrimination due to wearing hijabs at the local medical college, Arsen Magomedov, a lawyer and activist of the "City is Ours" movement, has told the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project. According to his story, the PO referred to insufficient data, since the application failed to contain specific information about "where, under what circumstances and by whom" human rights had been violated.
Earlier, on November 11, in his Telegram channel, Arsen Magomedov posted a photo of a questionnaire, in which a female student wearing a hijab was asked to indicate her first and last name, phone number, passport details, as well as similar information about her parents.
On September 2, 2022, it became known about a scandal in one of schools in Tyumen, where a native of Dagestan was not allowed to attend classes in a hijab. The girl was able to get there only after her parents' squabble with the principal.
