Convict for committing terror act in Domodedovo wins case at ECtHR
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has recognized the violation of the rights of Islam Yandiev, sentenced to life imprisonment within the case of the terror act committed at the Domodedovo Airport, and awarded him compensation of EUR 1000, although Russia had refused to comply with the decisions of the ECtHR.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the brothers-natives of Ingushetia, Islam and Ilez Yandiev, Akhmed Evloev and Bashir Khamkhoev, were involved in committing the terror act in Domodedovo. They denied their guilt. The court sentenced them to life imprisonment.
As reported by the ECtHR's website, Yandiev had complained about the lack or poor quality of bed linen, lack of privacy for the toilet and fresh air, cold cells and insufficient illumination.
The ECtHR found in relation to Yandiev a violation of the article of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) on the prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
This April, the Russia's Supreme Court (SC) refused to satisfy Yandiev's claim demanding him to return the Tetris game to him. The colony staff stated that the game is an "electronic storage medium," that is, an item that prisoners are prohibited from using. Yandiev objected that this was a table game that did not provide access to the Internet.
The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that in the complaint against life sentence, Yandiev's defence called the verdict excessively harsh, since "Yandiev actively participated in solving the crime." Yandiev himself stated that he had testified against his brother Ilez in connection with the pressure put on him. "They threatened to kill my father and mother and blow up my house if I didn't give the necessary testimonies," he has stated.
