Makhachkala picketers note interest decrease in support of Gadjiev and Donogo

This time, passers-by and drivers reacted less actively than a week ago to the pickets held on October 9 in support of Khadjimurad Donogo, a historian, and Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist, who was convicted for financing terrorism, Dagestani journalists have reported, linking this to the weather. Gadjiev's wife has not seen her husband for more than two years; and their son was not allowed to approach his father on the day of announcing the verdict.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, one of the editors of the "Chernovik" outlet, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" Charitable Fund, and Kemal Tambiev, an activist, have been under arrest since June 2019 on charges of financing terrorism. On September 12, 2023, the court sentenced Gadjiev to 17 years, Rizvanov – to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev – to 17.5 years of freedom deprivation.

The reaction to solo pickets was lower compared to similar actions held a week ago, Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik", has stated.

Dana Sakieva, Gadjiev's wife, has noted that they had not yet submitted an application for a visit; and she last saw her husband before he was transferred from the Makhachkala SIZO (pre-trial prison) to the SIZO in Rostov-on-Don.

Idris Yusupov, another solo picketer along with Magomedov, believes that the demand to stop the persecution of the historian Donogo has not lost its relevance, since it is still not clear why a ban was imposed on holding a lecture by Khadjimurad.

Earlier, Yusupov held a picket in support of Donogo on October 2, considering the disruption of the latter's lecture scheduled for September 30 as another fact of persecution of the scientist.
