Dagestani journalist holds picket in support of historian Donogo

At his solo picket held in Makhachkala, Idris Yusupov, a journalist, demanded to stop persecuting Khadjimurad Donogo, a historian.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 2, Idris Yusupov, a journalist with the "Novoe Delo" (New Cause) outlet held a picket with a poster "I/We are Khadjimurad Donogo. Against the persecution of the scientist!" after the cancellation of the Donogo's lecture, which was supposed to take place on September 30.

The owner of the building where the lecture was to be held was advised to cancel it, Mr Yusupov has explained.

Mr Donogo himself has linked the ban on holding a lecture on the Mountain Republic with the topic thereof or law enforcers' attention. He noted that in historical disputes, his colleagues can evaluate and criticize the view of one or another scientist on a topic, and forceful methods in the process are unacceptable.

Earlier, Khadjimurad Donogo, a former deputy director of the National Museum of Dagestan, said that during a search conducted on November 30, 2022, law enforcers seized his books, flash drives, his phone and a computer with valuable historical materials. The law enforcers were interested in his participation in scientific conferences in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Khadjimurad Donogo suggested that the search was conducted after a denunciation because of his publications.

Khadjimurad Donogo is a Caucasian scholar, Doctor of Historical Sciences, author of many books and monographs, including on the Caucasian War and Imam Shamil.
