Arrest of Sochi activist Melikhova extended

A court in Sochi has extended the arrest of Marina Melikhova, an activist, accused in a criminal case of discrediting the Russian Army, by two months.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 21, 2023, in Sochi, law enforcers detained Marina within the above criminal case. In 2022, she was fined several times under a similar administrative article – for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

Now, a court in Sochi has extended Melikhova's arrest until December 5, 2023, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has reported in its Telegram channel.

Let us remind you that Melikhova has linked her criminal prosecution with the pacifist videos that she had posted in social networks.

Melikhova is a supporter of "Citizens of the USSR"** movement. She was earlier convicted of public calls for extremist activities and served more than two years in jail, being released in the summer of 2022. After her release, she complained about violence and rights violations in jails.

*Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.

**In 2019, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic recognized the "Union of Rus' Slavic Forces" (one of the group of movements that also includes "Citizens of the USSR") as an extremist organization.
