Court arrests Kuban activist Melikhova

Activist Marina Melikhova was arrested for one month in a criminal case on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 21, in Sochi, the police detained Marina Melikhova in a criminal case on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, and a search was conducted in her apartment. In 2022, Marina Melikhova was fined several times under the administrative article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

Marina Melikhova is a supporter of the “Citizens of the USSR”*. Earlier, the activist was sentenced for public calls for extremist activities and served more than two years in prison. After her release, Marina Melikhova complained about violence and violation of rights in places of detention.

The activist can face up to five years of imprisonment under the criminal article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

Marina Melikhova associates her persecution with the pacifist videos she posted on the social media. The activist also said that in September 2022, she helped her son, who received a summons to join the army, move to Georgia.

According to the activist, in 2018, law enforcers deprived her of a successful business: the company, which employed 500 people, was fined, according to Marina Melikhova, illegally, 176 million roubles.

*The organization is recognized as extremist, and its activities are banned in Russia.
