Relatives of prisoner Abdul-Malik Albagachiev in Ingushetia alarmed by his condition

Being in a penal colony, Abdul-Malik Albagachiev suffers from more and more frequent epilepsy attacks, his condition is affected by the consequences of torture to which he was subjected by law enforcers, claim relatives of the native of Ingushetia. The lack of proper medical care in a penitentiary institution gives grounds to demand compensation for both physical and moral damage, emphasizes a lawyer.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in August 2018, Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, a native of Ingushetia, was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment. According to the investigators’ version, since January 2015, the man fought in Syria against government troops, and after returning to Russia, he kept a homemade grenade with him. On March 19, human rights defenders announced the torture conditions of the Abdul-Malik Albagachiev’s detention in the penal colony. On July 30, the prisoner had an epileptic seizure. All that time, he was laying on the floor in the cell.

Ismail Mankiev, an uncle of Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, witnessed his nephew’s epilepsy attacks on several occasions when the prisoner was admitted to hospital after severe torture. Ismail Mankiev said that his nephew began to suffer from such epilepsy attacks after he was severely beaten on his head with a plastic water bottle. During one of such epilepsy attacks, Abdul-Malik Albagachiev broke his arm.

According to Ismail Mankiev, too many tests fell on the lot of his nephew, which made him, a healthy guy, a man with disability. “He needs medical treatment, but they strengthen the regime of his detention,” Ismail Mankiev expressed his indignation.

Frequent epilepsy attacks lasting more than 5 minutes require immediate evacuation of the patient for medical care, and the fact that he stays in such state for about two hours on the floor is extremely life-threatening, says neurologist Olga Yusupova.

Lawyer Tatiana Okushko notes the fact that Abdul-Malik Albagachiev did not receive medical assistance on time is a violation of the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
